There are various way to enjoy a Kirishima Holiday, ranging from full scale mountain climbing to gentle, casual hiking. Take lunch in your backpack to fuel up and energise along your way.
Kirishima sets the stage of mythology and you may find yourself face to face with unexpected discoveries and lasting impressions. Wild life abounds with little birds and animals, petit flowers dot the landscape, and the lakes and water falls are sure to delight your sense of adventure and new experiences.

Onaminoike Lake &Mt. Karakuni Mt. Takachiho
Photo Mt. Karakuni is named after the story that people can look over to the Korean (Karakuni) Peninsula from the top. The gently sloping hill is popular with trekking enthusiasts and even allows for beginners to climb it.
Onaminoike Lake is located at one of the highest levels of crater lakes in Japan. It takes approximately 40 minutes trekking to reach the beautiful emerald green surface which reflects mysteriousness in its vast surrounds.
Photo It's famous for the legend of gods and goddesses descended to earth. There is a monument there 'Ten no Sakahoko' and it is reminiscent of a mythological world to visitors. Though some of the route is hard to climb, the trail up a mountain has awesome scenery of Kinkowan-Bay and Mt. Sakurajima. It takes approximately 90 minutes trekking from Takachiho Kawara dry riverbed. Well worth the challenge.
Maruonotaki Fall Kirishima Jingu Shrine
Photo 23m in height and 16m width, the resources are from Hayashida &Iodani onsen. The hot water cascades down, merging with white streams in serene nature. An extremely moving sight of spectacular contrasting dark green forestry and brilliant blue streams feature here. Photo The god of Niniginomikoto, the main character of Tenson Korin mythology is enshrined as the God in Kirishima Jingu Shrine. Its vermilion lacquered inner and front shrine are designated as one of the Nationally Important Properties. 'Kumen-Daiko' drum performance and fantastic fire festival 'Tenson Korin Gojinkasai' are seasonal events held here. Not to be missed.
Hayashida Onsen Miyama no yu Kirishima Shinwanosato Park
